Our March Continuing professional Development event was held in Colton Leeds last Wednesday. A mix of 40 delegates ranging from Structural Engineers to Architects and building surveyors were in attendance, to hear the latest technical details on three subjects:
- Structural repairs and wall tie corrosion
- Basement waterproofing including the details in BS 8102
- Damp and condensation.
Our MD Bryan Hindle presented the first session, with a range of issues explained and explored including how wall tie corrosion is progressing in the housing stock, differential movement in buildings and new-build defects; spotting them and repair strategies.
We then offerd Basement Waterproofing to BS8102, distilling the standard down into the most important parts and making sure delegates were briefed on the range of issues this standards raises. We also covered waterproofing methods and site quality control. Then followed a presentation with a demonstration of the MC range of injection resins, gels and foams for waterproofing and water ingress control – a real magic show which went down really well with the attendees.
Our final presentation was given by special guest Stephen Hodgson; The CEO at the Property Care Association. Steve has vast experience and presented a superbly judged presentation on damp and condensation, which finely balanced technical issues with real on-site diagnosis and practical survey considerations. The surveyors were delighted with this presentation which was a gold mine of important nuggets to bear in mind on any survey.
Our three principle suppliers had their northern big guns on hand too with Robert Deary CSSW of Safeguard Europe, Andrew Alan of Cintec International and James Plaskitt of Helifix available for technical assistance in the coffee breaks and at lunch.
Together these guys supply all our damp proofing, timber treatment, basement waterproofing, structural anchors, stitching anchors and wall tie materials needs. We have long established relationships built over 20 years and more with each and were delighted to share the day with these quality and service led businesses.
Feedback from delegates was excellent and we?d like to thank all who attended for taking time out from busy schedules on what was a very foggy Yorkshire morning.
Special thanks too, go to www.property-care.org/Steve Hodgson and Susan Utteridge of the PCA, and Robert, Andrew and James for their help and support.
The Brick-Tie team organised a great training event and we will be holding more of these events later in the year.
This one was demanded by our smaller clients who may not get a chance to run ‘in house’ events.
We do free CPD training on wall ties, basement waterproofing and damp proofing and timber treatment for practices, so do please contact the office for further information on how you can obtain valuable CPD from real experts.
