Brick-Tie are the first Leeds based Property Care Association member to join join the new CPD scheme.
What is CPD? Continuing Professional Development.
It is a method of making sure that qualified surveyors don’t just sit back and relax after they’ve passed their exams. A CPD scheme obliges members to keep learning all year long, in order to keep their scheme membership card.
Points are awarded for attending courses, learning new skills, reading standards, mentoring trainees, organising training for others and staff too.
25 points are needed annually to remain ‘current’ and I have 12 thus far. These are from the 6 hour ‘toxic’ mould seminar with Caoimhin Connell for the PCA and my full day spent with Graham Coleman last month, receiving one-to-one tuition on advanced damp diagnosis.
We believe that in life, we never stop learning and there?s always something new to discover. Clients rely on surveyors for up to date information including knowledge of new standards and techniques.
PCA members already take their on-going training and development seriously, but up to now we’ve had little way of demonstrating it or forming a recognised program of improvement. It’s reassuring for customers because on the one hand clients like to think they are employing an experienced CSRT CSSW surveyor, whereas on the other; they don’t expect someone who qualified 35 years in the past and has not taken a test since then.
Our clients have the best of both worlds – experience and proven currency, with a card to prove it….ACE!
The Property Care Association is once again demonstrating that they are committed to maintaining standards and they should be applauded for that.
Mind you, the scheme is optional so far and those surveyors who don’t subscribe to the scheme will find themselves having to explain to clients ‘why not’? Not MD Bryan Hindle though – He has his card and is half way to this years 25 points already…..and it’s not March yet!
Whilst we are a Leeds based Property Care Association member we work all across Yorkshire – please call for details.
