BT Preservation are a Helifix approved contractor, so we and Helifix are working together to educate more surveyors and engineers on the benefits of the Helifix masonry repair system.
The Helifix system is one of our favourite methods of tying cavity walls and stabilising leaning or bulging walls. We’ve been Helifix approved contractors for many years, developing a close relationship for the benefit of our domestic and commercial wall tie clients.
We recently carried out one of our joint continuing professional development seminars on Helifix repairs for Harrogate Borough Council.
The talk used case studies from repair projects we have completed on York City Walls, Riber Castle, York and Leeds University and several other interesting structural repairs, using these wall ties and Helifix helical bars.
Guests included the council’s building Control officers, who were particularly interested in real life cases from new-build sites, where in-built defects have cause problems, such as missing cavity wall ties, wall ties incorrectly installed and incorrectly specified.
Dealing with missed or defective expansion joints was discussed too, something we have been involved in rectifying on new build jobs in Leeds, Bradford, Harrogate and York recently. The Helifix SlipTie, which is specifically for retro-fit expansion joint installation, was available at the talk so delegates could see how these work.
This event was part of our educational outreach and is one of several presentations delivered to Structural Engineers, Architects, Building Surveyors and Housing Associations.
Presentations available include:
1. Cavity Wall Ties and Structural repair techniques using Helifix stress free repairs
2. Concrete and Basement waterproofing to BS8102
3. Damp diagnosis and damp control
