Food for thought… The Trussell Trust

Our year end has just arrived and the bean counters have done their work.  We are thankful, that after a difficult year, the resilience of our team and loyalty of our customers has seen us through the pandemic. We have even managed to invest in some new vans and equipment, as well as commission a new website (watch this space).

Many firms and their employees have not been so fortunate. Despite apparently low unemployment figures, very many people in work are struggling to earn enough money to feed themselves and their families. Poverty is real and growing. The governments own website confirms that there are now more food banks in the UK than there are branches of McDonalds. Yorkshire has lots of food banks, both the Trust’s and independent ones.

We have supported various charities before, but this year The Trussell Trust was our choice. We offered to donate at least £5.00 for every customer feedback form we received this year. The amount has been rounded up to £1000.00 in total, which was paid to The Trussell Trust this week.

This moving email was received with our receipt:

“Please accept this email as acknowledgement and thanks for the extremely generous donation of £1000 on behalf of Brick-Tie recently received by the Trussell Trust by BACS transfer.  Thank you so much for your generosity. Your donation will help us support food banks in the Trussell Trust network to provide emergency food and compassionate and practical support to people locked in poverty to help them resolve the crises that they face. Last year food banks in our network gave out 2.5 million emergency food parcels to people in crisis and experienced a  33%  increase in need. Year on year, the food banks in our network are seeing more and more people struggling to eat because they simply cannot afford food. This is not right. Your support makes this work possible and helps provide this vital lifeline.”

Kindest regards

Charlotte”

Reading Charlotte’s letter we were struck by the heartache behind the growing demand for their services – a 33% increase in need! So we have decided to keep The Trussell Trust as our nominated charity going forward to this next financial year.
