Operations Director and Employee Owner Trustee

When a new employee comes along it’s very special. An opportunity for the company, and a huge change for the employee.  As a small but well established firm we’re always very busy. It’s important for us to train newcomers well, for good business. But more than that, we want them to see a positive impact too, which they can be proud of.

Kirstie has experience working for larger companies, and brings welcome additional skills and verve to her role. Her first task was to help prepare for our annual independent health and safety audit. Kirstie holds the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health qualification (IOSH) ‘Managing Safely’. Brick-Tie already has a well-established Health and Safety system in place, but Kirstie has made a significant impact already,  further enhancing our processes.  Kirstie engaged diligently, and enthusiastically with the complex process. It’s a big deal for us because the audit is a valuable outside view of the robustness (or otherwise), of our heath and safety practice, and performance.

It’s Hazardous work!

BT Preservations work is hazardous, involving working at height, drilling, cutting, and repairing masonry, as well as using a wide range of potentially harmful materials like resins, timber treatment fluids, grouts, plasters and adhesives. Lots of dust can be created, which could be harmful to employees and others, It needs suppression and control. Not to mention noise, vibration, and manual handling hazards too. Everything has to be identified, controls in place, which are always applied.

We are used to obtaining high marks and praise from our auditors, but they are always keen to catch us out.

Outstanding safety compliance

This year we scored 97% in the audit, which places us at the very top of our peer group in the industry. Safety specialists Stallard Kane enthused about our team, telling us that for a small enterprise our systems are exemplary, and would put many much larger national firms to shame. “Outstanding attention to detail, obvious positive cultures in place, management are fostering embedded safety and health in the workplace – great work” they said.

Quality damp-proofing comes from constant improvement

Today we received a dozen certificates through the post. These were awarded to 12 of our staff, all of whom recently passed their examinations via the Property Care Association. As a result they are all qualified technicians.  That said, most of them were already qualified so why the fuss? Quality damp-proofing, in depth We believe
